Simon,
Sorry you met with disaster, but this is just one of the breaks with CH. One thing we all need to learn (this is ONLY my opinion) is to quit apologizing for being ILL. That's easier said than done.
The first few years of CH, my favorite words were "I'm sorry!" Then it hit me, Why am I sorry - I can't help it? So I quit apologizing. I've had attacks in meetings, at parties, on airplanes, and a lot of other strange places, but I've learned to just say, "Excuse me a few minutes, I've got to go take a shot!" It's taken some time and effort, but I've finally learned to not give a damn what anyone thinks. I'm ill and I'm gonna do what I've gotta do to get rid of the pain and the hell with what anyone thinks about it.
As far as the family trying to understand. Last night hubby told me I needed to see a shrink because I was probably imagining that the pain was worse than it really was. Yeah, right! You just can't fight ignorance so why try?
Anyhow, try to NOT apologize for being ill. The first few times, it's not real comfortable, but after a while it becomes a habit. Quote lcb again, "What don't kill you makes you stronger!"
Hugs BD
