Normal? There is nothing "normal" with CH.
You didn't say what else she's taking besides the Demerol. Has the doc tried Imitrex or DHE? This abort the attack, demerol only covers it up.
My doc explained to me that pain meds will kill one headache, but another will take it's place immediately (thus clusters) and it doesn't seem like you're getting a break in between. I went through 2 solid months with no break from the pain, before I was diagnosed with CH. Then after two DHE injections, the HA broke and I got some relief. During the 2 months from Hell, I took a lot of pain killers and they never did anything for me for more than 30 minutes at a time.
Get some info off this board on meds that WORK and take them to your doc. And make her drink lots and lots of water (see Water Cure).
