My Ch started 12 years ago after a car accident in which I received a pretty good blow to the head. I now think that they started as migraines and "morphed" into clusters about a year later. I believe that sleep disturbance (at least for me) is a key to CH attacks. I fly alot, and can almost guarantee a CH attack if I have jet lag. Also, seem to get more of these on weekends when I am likely to try to sleep a little later in the morning. It is odd that ch are believed to be related to seratonin - which is also a key factor in regulation of sleep (rem sleep especially I think). This link may explain why a lot of us are woken from a dead sleep with full blown H/a already in progress. I think that the stress in my life is related to dealing with this syndrome, rather than the cause of it. I would like to know, though, if anyone else out there has had head injury which precipitated your CH ?? FYI, migraines run in my family - sister has epilepsy & migraine; uncle had them as well; my 16 year old son just recently diagnosed with migraines (not clusters thank GOD). Coincidence ?
