Laura; I was also diagnosed wtih Chiari Syndrome, Type I, after a routine follow up MRI. I discussed the findings with 2 top neurosurgeons who both felt that it does not affect my headaches. The one told me that she felt the surgery would only have a 30% chance of changing my condition and would only do the procedure after all other options were explored (tells you alot). I was hopeful for any resolution, too.
There are different degrees of the condition. The higher types signal more serious conditions; that do require some intervention. They believe this is more common than thought....MRI helps us find it and diagnosis it now.
