Glenn,
During a real “barn-burner”, I’ll experience what could be described as “near-blindness”,
especially the eye on the side of my headaches (with me, always the right). I may also experience
slightly blurred vision on that side during daytime “shadows”, but nothing like what happens to
my eyesight during a “9” or “10”. I’ve staggered around knocking things over, banged into walls,
and tripped over furniture. I’ve been so blinded at times that I couldn’t even perform a menial
task like getting the coffee cream out of the refrigerator. It is during these particularly bad
episodes that I’ll also have extreme sensitivity to light, similar to migraine sufferers. During
most headaches, I’m not sensitive to normal room light at all. In fact, keeping the light on in the
room helps me focus, an important part of fighting off a headache for me. When the light
sensitivity and “blindness” come, the headache is totally out of control and there’s not much I
can do besides run around the house, scream, cry, go insane, and basically wait it out. The key
question to ask your doctors is: am I having headaches because of a vision problem, or am I
having a vision problem because of the headaches? Hope you sort it out and suffer no more!
