Cluster headaches and migraines are actually very similar in mechanism (we think) as many of the medications used to treat one, helps the other. There is such a think as a retinal migraine. They occur in 1/100 migraine suffers, have similar visual patterns, but are usually only monocular (occuring only on one side). Headache can, or may not follow. Some people, unfortunately, have a combination of clusters and migraines. Could be that is what you are experiencing.
Retinal migraines are not as scarry as basilar (with regards to medication), but I would work closely with your doctors before taking any of the vasoconstrictive medications (Imitrex, DHE, ergots, etc).
