I bang my head against the wall, kick the bedpost to hurt my foot (even thought one time of getting a hammer and breaking my big toe so I'd have something else to focus on - but hurt too bad to look for the hammer), scream, cry, use my fists to try to squeeze my skull, pace, rock back and forth, threaten to kill anyone who touches me and generally am not a person you'd want to be around when one hits.
Cafagot will work to stop the pain usually in about 20 minutes or so. DHE is wonderful, but like Gayle, my butt is so sore from it (for months and months) that it's a last resort. And the bad part is the way the meds make you feel. I can't think or remember anything when I'm on them.
Since my surgery, I'm still having CH almost daily, but the intensity is only about a 3. Haven't had any full blown 10s since Feb. 1/2 Cafagot works well before I go to bed. At least I can sleep and that's something I haven't been able to do in years.
Here's hoping pain free days lay ahead for all of us.
