I had my first cluster attack when I was nineteen. I'm 62, now. And I've been using butalbital since 1983. So, you can probably take my word for it when I say that you need something besides butalbital to control cluster pain. You need something like Darvocet or Percocet, at the very least. I've found that Verapamil is, for me, a pretty good preventive and Percocet is able to handle the pain that breaks through. Unfortunately, about the only thing that we clusterheads have in common is the pain. Though Verapamil is currently working for me, but it may not work for you and may even stop working for me. It basically takes experimentation under a doctor's care to find out what will work for you.
