These are considered a disability. Some can cope and still work, but a lot of us can't. If you do go for disability - go to your Congressman and tell him what you're doing and that you need help. You can get it through a lot easier that way. And be sure to send him copies of everything you send to SS. It will take about six months, but if your doc thinks that's what you should do then go for it.
As far as outgrowing them - good luck. Some have -most haven't.
