I've been using Imitrix nasal spray, 20 mg, for a few months. It works fantastic and really saved me. Even if I'm getting a #10, the spray stops the pain totally in 4-5 minutes. I couldn't believe the first time I tried it: the pain was #8 and still rising, then all of a sudden it was gone!
One of the biggest problems with nasal sprays is knowing how to take them properly. Like just about everyone else I assumed that the further I shot the medicine towards the back of my nose, the better off I was. But a neurologist told me that the idea is to keep the medicine near the bottom of the nose, where there are a lot of blood vessels near the surface of the skin which absorb the medicine and send it directly to the brain. So I angle the squirter towards the side of the nose, instead of the opening in the back. To prevent drops from forming and dripping out the nose, I gently press the nostril closed once to spread the medicine evenly.
Another advantage is that this technique keeps most of the medicine from getting into my throat and mouth. Any medicine that gets there is wasted, plus causes the bad taste.
