Get your hubby to a neuro. Get an MRI to rule out other things. It's not a common diagnosis and sometimes takes going through a lot of docs before one finally spots it.
Two things my neuro asks (he suffers from Clusters) (1) Have you ever thought of suicide? and (2) what do you do when they hit? - if you have to lie in a dark room still - it's not clusters. If you pace, bang your head, hurt yourself and are not a nice person to be around - it might be clusters.
Keep us informed and bring your hubby here if it is clusters. We're all here to help.
