I've been battling this since I first read the post from "Georgia" not too long ago. I printed it out to keep it fresh in my mind. I wanted to send my extra medications right away, but I know I can't do that. So, I've been studying and studying for ways around this. So far, my best idea, which will still take time, and participation is this:
1. We continue to support OUCH, not just with membership, but with donations as well.
2. We get information out to the hospitals and especially the FREE CLINICS!
3. We donate our extra medications to these free clinics for cluster patients.
4. People who don't have insurance or funds, tell us where they live, we give them the name of the clinic we donated the medications too.
We could take this a step further. Say a person comes on the board who does not have insurance or funds. They tell us where they live, and where their nearest free clinic is. However many of us live in that area could surely help by either going to the clinic with the said person and finding out what medication the doctor will prescribe, and then explain to the doctor we will either donate ours if we have it or help fund it. It would also be an opportunity to introduce the clinic to OUCH, and they may be willing to call us when a new cluster sufferer comes in.
Just some thoughts so far, I'll keep at it.
