There is another class of psychoactive mushroom, specifically Amanita muscaria, which will NOT work.
Any of the psilocybes will work, as well as some of the panaeolus species. The two most commonly available are Psilocybe semilanceata (Liberty Cap) and Psilocybe cubensis (Cubies), although in the Pacific Northwest Psilocybe azurescens and Psilocybe cyanescens can be found in abundance in the autumn.
There are hundreds of species of psilocybin-bearing mushrooms in the world, but most are rare or found only in limited areas of the world.
