Not long ago I inquired about the walk-up price of a ticket from Birmingham to Houston on another airline. They wanted almost $600.00 one way!!
When I looked shocked, the agent said to try Southwest. So I did - $150.00 for the same ticket, and I could have gotten a round trip for $125.00
if reserved in advance.
Ike's suggestion about flying into Birmingham has merit. There are not as many flights to choose from, but the airport is much easier to navigate,
lines are shorter, gates are not very far from the entrance, luggage is easy to retrieve, parking is closer...I much prefer flying out of there to going from Atlanta.
Then you just take old I-20 most of the way. In fact I live half way between Birmingham and Atlanta - so you can stop by for a cup of coffee if you go to the convention earlier than I do.
