I have been an advocate of ice for a long time.
I keep Ice packs in freezer at home and at work when "in season". been known to actually put my head in a snowdirft.(wonder what the neighbors thought?; who cares it gave me relief then or distracted me long enough) anyway I use ice on eye or side of head and will let one melt in my mouth held firmly against the roof of my mouth.
If nothing else it all gives me the feeling of doing something about it.
