Yes, some people do have success just with Verapamil. Usually in the 360 - 480 mg/day dosage. It usually take s a few days to build to benificial levels in the body but some people's clusters are stopped with it.
The other medication is probably some sort of vaso-constrictor. Used to stop an individual headache. Constricting the blood vessels will put stress on your heart so the doc probably wants to make sure the ol' ticker is in good shape before letting you take it.
