I really agree with you about the immune system thing. If any of us in our home gets a cold, my husband is almost guaranteed to start a cluster cycle. Usually, the cold season coincides with the season changes (i.e. fall) and if one of us brings home the germ, he will catch it but doesn't recover like we do. He will go right into a cycle that will last usually 6 - 8 weeks.
I try giving all of us echinacea to boost our immune systems (especially my husband) so that we do not become susceptible to much and so far, this year, none of us has come down with a cold. Knock on wood.
We are also in Canada (Calgary) and I know what you are talking about with regard to our medical system here. Our waiting list for our local headache clinic is at least one year long which is, I guess, why we pursued the natural treatment route instead. My husband (also a Mike) has had great success with the water treatment, you can find the details on the left side of this board now, thanks to DJ, and after going through a myriad of meds, it has been the only thing that has brought my husband any relief.
As to yours starting so "late" in life, the Beast doesn't appear to have much rhyme nor reason and there are no easy answers. That's why this forum is so crucial to us - we are learning more and more every day and we even have some doctors as members so slowly but surely the knowledge base is growing and we are all working towards treatments and hopefully someday a cure.
