garyg-
I like your clear explanation of a complex issue. I don't personally put much stock in the light-related theory, but I've been wrong a whole lot more often in my life than I've been right. More importantly (from my perspective) is your almost certainly correct hypothesis that the causative elements of CH are far more complex than a simple A=B explanation.
Whether the structural difference noted in the hypothalmic region is, itself, a congenital abnormality or merely a predisposition to the later development of such an abnormality both remains to be learned and opens up the further question of (assuming later development) the 'triggers' that 'activate' this latent predisposition.
Okay, enough of my unqualified musings.
On the subject of your sub-text, while I very much enjoy analytical discussions such as this one, I also enjoy virtually all other aspects of the varied threads on clusterheadaches.com. My career requires that I analyze problems and develop solutions all week. My interest in CH causes me to do the same some of the remaining time. At other times, I have a need to read Nancy's Saturday funnies; to read and occasionally reply to the religious debates; to hear about the trials, tribulations, successes and enjoyments of fellow ch'rs 'non-ch' lives.
As we continue to grow and OUCH becomes a reality, perhaps we will reach the day when we can support several message boards, segmented by topic or theme. Even so, we'd still have people mistakenly, unknowingly or just uncaringly posting to the 'wrong' board. I've cut back on my posts lately because I've chosen to decide that my life has more than enough stress in it, and I'd rather save my energies to fight the demon.
