My husband is a cluster headache sufferer. We knew he was having these terrible headaches for the past 18 years, we were not aware that other people suffered from the same kind of headache until about 2 years ago when we found the "cluster" webpage. Shortly after we found out some information on this subject my husband was struck with another cluster headache over the weekend so we went to a weekend doctor because his primary care doctor was not open on the weekends. The doctor had luckily had knowledge on this headache. He gave my husband Butalbital, this medicine actually worked!! The medicine had ran out so my husband went to his primary care physician and told him that he suffers from clusters and that he was going through another "cluster period", he told him that they come about two times a year, these periods last for 4 to 6 weeks at a time and the attacks usually occur at night when he is trying to sleep. The doctor looked at him like he was crazy and practically accused him of just looking for drugs. My husband does not nor has he ever done drugs in his life. The doctor reluctantly wrote him a prescription for Butalbital and told him that he would not get anymore medication until he saw a neurologist. I am so tired of the arrogance of doctors to believe that they know it all about the human body when apparently they don't! I am writing to see if anyone knows a doctor who is educating on the subject of clusters and practices in the Hampton Roads area. We live in Virginia Beach.
