The Post It Note Neurologist
Dec 3rd, 2015 at 6:54pm

Had to post about our trip to the new neurologist today.  Remember that he is supposedly a specialist in headaches.

Our visit started with the intake nurse who was putting my husband's information into the computer.  I had to go over numerous time to help her to the point of taking the mouse in my hand and clicking on the appropriate supplements in the d3 regiment.  When she asked what the dr was seeing him today for I said "cluster headaches".  She said "I have those and I am having one right now"  I proceeded to ask her if the dr had been able to find anything to help her to which she replied that she had just started getting them.  I told her if she were having a cluster headache that she would not be able to work on that computer like she was if she was having an attack.  Not much of a confidence builder.

Then to see the dr.  He did a neurological work up.  Apparently all my husbands reflexes are fine.  Go into his office to talk about what he can do.  We left with 2 post it notes and a prescription for an EKG.  The first post it note has to do with insomnia since apparently insomnia is causing his headaches. (couldn't be the pain waking him up out of sleep causing him the insomnia.) 1st post it note for sleep reads: Exercise daily, no tv/cell/computer for 1 hr before bed, no lights/tv/radio on, yoga/taichi/pray/meditation/personal diary, chamomile tea, bed for sleep/intamacy only, don't get frustrated after 20 -30 minutes.

The 2nd post it note is headache triggers.  It reads: Stress, lack of sleep, dehydration, skipping meals, alchohol, tabacco, caffeine, too much pain medication.

We left and were cracking up.  He was an absolute joke.  I called the scheduling phone number and told them if anyone ever calls again asking for someone to help with cluster headaches to tell them to look somewhere else because the dr was useless.  Next I called the headache specialist that I have heard good things about but did not have an appointment until March 2nd to be sure that this doctor has some kind of actual knowledge about cluster headaches and told the girl about our wonderful experience with the neurologist.  She must have taken pity on me because he has an appointment on Wednesday.  The paperwork they faxed over looks like something you would give to someone dealing with headaches instead of the whole body.  Trying to again be hopeful but we shall see.

I just thought you might enjoy the story. I forgot to mention that I asked the dr how many patients he has seen with cluster headaches and his answer was 10.  I guess that makes you a headache expert.
