Joe,

I agree.  At first blush, this study clearly points to one of the benefits of healthy vitamin D3 [25(OH)D] levels and that is good for all of us.

However, digging a little deeper in the data, I came across the following:

"The team discovered what appear to be clear threshold levels for brain health using standard medical measurements of concentration in the blood. The risk of dementia appears to rise for people with vitamin D blood levels below 25 nanomoles per liter, while vitamin D levels above 50 nanomoles appear to be good levels for brain health."

Again, while the survey results are very encouraging, the actual 25(OH)D serum concentrations involved are extremely low.  25 nmol/L, (10 ng/mL) represents a sever vitamin D3 deficiency. However, 50 nmol/L, (20 ng/mL) is still vitamin D3 deficient.

I can only imagine what the comparative results would be if the subjects involved were taking 10,000 IU/day vitamin D3 and maintaining an average 25(OH)D serum concentration of 200 nmol/L, (80 ng/mL) like we do as CH'ers.

My only concern about the study results is physicians will expect health benefits at too low a 25(OH)D serum concentration and be hesitant to allow their patients to take sufficient doses of vitamin D3 to be really healthy.

My thoughts for what it's worth...

You love lots of things if you live around them. But there isn't any woman and there isn't any horse, that’s as lovely as a great airplane. If it's a beautiful fighter, your heart will be ever there
