pain free
Mar 16th, 2014 at 12:40am

hi all,
well its coming up 2 months now since I had shadows and titrated up on vit d.
I have now got the same multi vit and k2 as batch has and have dropped the calcium, as the multi has 200mg in it.
magnesium I play with, as it kind of makes things very loose lol, but am taking about 300mg. ive noticed a big difference in general well being since dropping the calcium and taking the k2 life extension.
the suprising thing was my results of the last blood test for my cholestrial wasn't good. it had dropped over all marginally, but my good was down and my bad was up !
doctor told me to double up on fish oil, take 2 1500mg a day and re test in 3 months.
but,   I haven't even had so much as a shadow in 2 months
I go for a 2 week holiday in a few days, im going to continue to take my 180 verapamil until I return, then im weening off them, ive been on them for a year,  uts time to be stand alone on the vitamin regime.
batch,  my sincere thankyou's for all you've done to help, including from my wife who as we all know, are the ones that really do take the brunt of everything whilst we suffer.
crossing fingers for when I ween off the verapamil, but the improvement and difference so far is un deniable on how effective the regime is.  and I think ive been one of the ones that have taken longer than most for it to kick in.
cheers

Good to hear that it is finally working well for you.

Last blood test my GP got a surprise looking at the results, my cholestrial numbers were great, which he credited to the fish oil I'm taking (either 2x1000 or 2x1500mg a day).

thanks hoppy and mike.

yes mike I was expecting my cholestrial to be a bit better, and the doctor was surprised by the good going down and the bad going up,  Ive even deliberately been eating healthier over the last 4 odd months, cutting out all rubbish, eating lots of fruit vegies etc so that was one area I was looking forward to an improvement, nuts and berries as per batches diet, ironical really  lol
so ive doubled up on fish oil and wait for my next blood test.   maybe I should start eating rubbish again  lol
but, im happy to be pain free and be able to concentrate on other things like my cholestrial, rather than how you get totally driven and focused on when my next cluster is going to appear !!
cheers

Hey Colin,

I wouldn't worry about your cholesterol levels...  it's blood pressure and too much sugar you need to track.  As long as your BP in the normal range <120/80, cholesterol levels are not really a concern.

This is an opinion held by several really smart physicians who have run the trap line on studies of low cholesterol diets and use of statins...  They've come to the conclusion that low cholesterol diets and use of statins do not contribute to longevity...

Google "cholesterol myth" and see what what pops up.  The bottom line is big pharma wants to sell statins so perpetuates the myth that cholesterol is bad...

If you want to lower your total cholesterol try CholestOff along with the Omega-3 fish oil...  CholestOff is a natural plant sterol that has a proven track record in reducing total cholesterol.

I was a participant in an RCT at NIH and the protocol called for Rapamune® (sirolimus)...  Sirolimus has a nasty side effect of causing a rapid increase in total cholesterol and triglycerides...  and it did...

My total cholesterol went from 140 to 250  mg/dL in one week after starting the sirolimus.  My triglycerides spiked from 100 to 200 mg/dL.

My doc's at NIH gave me the option of statins or 2000 mg/day Omega-3 fish oil.  I chose the latter and added Cholestoff.  My total cholesterol dropped from 250 down to 160 mg/dL in 5 weeks.  My triglycerides dropped to 140 in the same time frame... and that was while still taking the sirolimus.

Another factoid...  The human brain is nearly 60 percent fat and needs essential fatty acids like Omega-3 DHA to build and maintain a healthy brain.  See:

Hi Colin,

Glad your feeling better and hope you enjoy the holidays pain free.

you mention you have been on Verapamil for one year... are you a chronic or episodal?  and is this the first time you tried Verapamil?

I ask because Im episodal and my cycle normally lasts 4-5 weeks and disappears for 2-3 years. this is the first time I've tried Verapamil and it has really worked well. but i feel now that my cycle should end and I have started to taper down but have gotten hit and shadows are coming back regularly. so im back on the dosage.  I do not want to be on it for a year and it really worries me that verapamil might turn me into a dependant that cant get off it.

any help appreciated from anyone.
thanks,

hi rookie,
im episodic, and last January was my first full on cluster,3 week episode.  It sort of ramped up over the previous 3-4 years, my neurogist pryor to this put me on verapamil, but ofcourse, im suborn and stopped taking them. when I got that big cluster attack last January 2013,
the nuerologist went off and instructed me to take them every day, to be on them as a preventative full time.
well that was 360mg, but when my next cycle started in may, I did notice that the intensity was reduced for that cycle, about a kip 6  rather than the kip 10 in January.
straight after that may cycle ended i started taking the vit d regime that is here on the forum, and batch has helped me get the right balance and am currently pain free. but as soon as I started taking the vit d regime, I reduced my verapamil to 180mg, im now at a point where, after my 2 week holiday fishing starting tomorrow, I will slowly ween off the verapamil completely. whilst my neurologist said that you could be on it for life and it wont hurt you in the slightest,  well that's not 100 % correct, whilst perfectly safe for most, their have been related deaths ( small percentage I agree) plus recently finding out that you should have regular ecg 's if on verapamil for any lengthy period.  ive had no side effects, only initially feeling a bit light headed for the first week or so,  but, its still a drug, and I certainly understand as a cluster head sufferer, that pain relief is of paramount importance as a sufferer, but if at all possible, get off as many drugs as I could purely to the fact that its a drug !  weening off is best done with a consultation with your doctor/ specialist.
I don't think its an addictive drug at all, I know the only reason I stayed on it was as a back up to the vit d regime,
have you tried or looked into trying the regime ?

colin
