Pain - Interrogations
Aug 7th, 2013 at 5:37am

Most of us have been through barely bearable pain; sometimes unbearable. But we bore it anyway. It's the worst pain humans have endured, I've read somewhere. I was thinking that if we're combatants and are captured, and the enemy tortures us to get information, we'd laugh in their faces after the pain is applied and say, "Is that all you got?! Ha! That ain't nothing. I'm a cluster headache survivor!" Grin

Ahhh, what a relief to be pain free. Hang in there. Good times are comin'.

I learned in torture school you must believe absolutely that the pain will stop in just a minute, then be gone forever.

A simple mantra which has served me well these 30 years.

One of the problems with pain is that, unless it is constant and without pause, each experience of pain is unique to the moment. We can't "learn" from that experience, we can only learn how to handle those moments in between attacks while anticipating the next round. We can also learn some coping techniques for the next round as well. This is what makes us "different" from others who only know the occasional interruption of pain. blessings. lance

Might that be SERE school (survival, evasion, resistance, escape)?

It was a horrible school, Aceserve, but it served me well and to this day I laugh in the beast's face most of the time.

"The pain will stop in just a minute, then be gone forever".

I truly believe it, so it must be true.

From a neurological and psychological standpoint, increased exposure to pain can actually make it worse, rather than better. Pain, like any other stimulus, rewires the brain the each time it is felt, and not for the better, unfortunately. In other words, chronic pain is likely to make the pain worse rather than better.

Also, as bad as a CH is, watching Game of Thrones reminds me that there are still some fates worse than cluster Shocked
