Capsaicin Cream
Aug 29th, 2012 at 7:58pm

I just saw an episode of Dr. Oz and saw a bit about natural ways to help headaches, and one portion was about using capsaicin cream to help reduce the pain of the beast.  I'm wondering if anyone has used it before?  How much do you use, and where do you apply it?  Dr. Oz said to rub a little around the nostrils.

I think it might work for a tension headache. For a migraine, it might be useful as a counter-irritant. For CH? Probably about as useful as an aspirin.

But I always say, give it a try. You never know.

I have used Sinus Buster (capsaicin) nasal spray with some success. I also rub either eucalyptus lip balm or peppermint oil on the nostril or eyelid with success as well.

I also use atomic fireballs under my tongue and they work well.

Not immediate.  The premise is that the pain caused by applying the cap cream depletes the body's supply of "Substance P".  The decrease of substance P is supposed to make the oain less when a CH hits.  Substance P makes pain more painful.
