used O2 for air travel?
Jul 12th, 2012 at 1:33am

I have a question: the neuro DID give me a script for airplane O2 before I embarked on this trip, but too late, since Delta has
48hr before flight  must fax scrip info rule.I'm not home, so I can't look at what she wrote; but anyone have any idea what it might be? doc has done the correct high flow script for my home use.(sure wish I had some tonight!) Anyone have any experience with this? what kind of tank?

To my knowledge, US Airlines will not let us take o2 tanks with us, carry on or baggage. You must rent a tank from them whether you use it or not. I almost did this until I found the cost was over $150.

Some O2 suppliers have offices around the US and I have gotten O2 while in Las Vegas, I live in Michigan, the supplier I used was Apria Healthcare.

Most of us carry abortives like Imitrex injections or inhalers, or melt under the tongue meds like Maxalt or Zomig. They abort well.

O2 portable concentrators can be taken on the plane but are not good for CH.

Good Luck, Don

I fly twice every week here in NZ but don't take oxygen onto a plane, instead I rely on having injectable imitrex with me to cover CH whilst airborne. I've had zero issues taking them through security for over 100 flights, although the TSA in the US will probably be stricter.

I've never tried the 02 route while flying, just the trex injectors. TSA looked at them 2 different times, asked me what they were, did not even ask me for the prescription, and let them on. I still have not been hit while flying...(he says crossing his fingers while knocking on wood!) Wink
