Triggers

I saw my doctor today ahead of steroid injections in a couple of weeks. He advised me in the mean time to try and stay away from anything that triggers the CH. I know some triggers like choc and alcohol, however I am asking if anyone knows of other triggers.

They tend to be person specific. Mine are alcohol, sustained stress, getting really hungry or major sleep disruptions. Some of the more common ones shared by other members are strong odors, especially petroleum types, and bright sunlight.

MSG (monosodium glutemate), household cleaners not all, gasoline, kerosine, codeine, heat, cold, loud noises. Booze, preservatives, etc.

Good Luck, Don

Great question.

For me, it has always been reliably: any amount of alcohol over 1/2 a beer, weather (barometric changes), moderate-severe dehydration, and high heat+humidity.

Occasionally, it can also be triggered by: sudden flashes of light in my eyes, lack of food or even too much food, a crying "jag", stress, sleeping at a weird time, or rarely by just seeing repeated patterns.

Full disclosure, I also suffer from migraine.  Some of my shadows could actually be migraine, but it's hard to tell.  I know my triggers because I've managed to at least keep a record of those, so I hope this helps.  Please remember that you'll need to document your own personal triggers over time.   Smiley
