I have had a lifetime of clusters, always hitting around June or July and lasting a couple of months and then around November or December, again, twice a day like clockwork for another two months, or so.   I have been free of them since December 2009 and I stopped stockpiling Imitrex. I thought my daily dose of Verapamil and Melatonin has kept them in check....until now.  Anyway, I had been cheating my Imitrex with the Q-Tip-self inject trick, but I just got my Imitrex, or rather Sumatriptan Succinate and they changed the injector.

I'm going to try my best to tell you how to get these new injectors open.  Here is my disclaimer: I do not condone tampering with these and disassembling them.  It is dangerous. Do not attempt this.

Find the seam near the top and score the label around where the groove is.  Pry the two pieces apart with a good grip and your thumb, applying pressure around the circumference as it separates.  It is really tight.  Apply a good amount of even pressure and work your way around it, and be careful.  It will give. Once you get it apart you will see these two little tabs holding the syringe in.  Fold these down and gently remove the syringe.

I took a marker and drew arrows pointing to the seam at the top.  I hope this helps someone.  I could not find instructions on this site on how to do this, so I'm sorry if this is old hat.  I'm just trying to help.  Good luck, and God bless!!
