Oxygen and night time hits
May 19th, 2012 at 9:07am

I am a chronic and in a high cycle right now.  O2 works to abort the hits that I get during the day, but at night I am not having any luck.   The hits that wake me up don't seem to be phased by the O2.  It's a catch 22, I want to give the O2 time to work, but the longer I wait to take a shot the worse it gets.  If I try to abort with O2, the imitrex is less effective because I've waited to take a shot.  Getting hit about every 2 1/2 hours at night.   Just wondering if anyone has the same issue or any advice on how to use oxygen more effectively for the wake up hits.  Thanks.

Regards,

Malcom

Malcom, I understand completely. I am chronic, and when I'm in high chronic cycle, I get hit between 2-4 times a night, as well as during the day. For me, the problem seems to be related to the intensity of the CH when it finally awakens me. It's already at KIP 4 and climbing. O2 is more effective at the start of a hit than it is after the hit has ramped up. Having said that, I have two procedures I follow. First, I use the O2 to abort for the first and second hit, usually at 1:30 and 2:30am. If I get another hit, I will resort to a different abortive plus O2, while that abortive is taking effect. Trex or Migranal, depending. Usually trex. Finally, when I'm low on abortives, or just not using them, I'll stay awake so I can take on the hit immediately, and that makes O2 aborts quicker and more effective. Don't know how much help this was, but I pray you find a way through the nighttime maze. Blessings. lance

Thanks.  My hits usually come about an hour and a half after going to sleep.  I've thought about setting an alarm for every hour and seeing if I could hit the O2 quickly and try to go back to sleep. Anyone ever tried this?  It seem these days that by the time the second hit comes at about 2:00 am, I say screw it and just stay up.  It's not worth the fight to try and get some sleep and I don't like doing that many shots in a night.

Give it a whirl. Why not? I do remember some others trying this but I can't recall how it turned out. I started to become very familiar with late night TV because of my decision to just stay up and fight them as they arrived. No easy answers here. One thing...sleeping in a semi-recllined position seemed to help me and a few others as well. Just a thought. blessings and prayers for pf night. lance

I haven't check for ages to see if it's still available but, ask druggist if you can get ergotamine 2mg SL. It's an old med which used, one before bedtime, will block night time attacks.

In my last high cycle the oxygen wasn't working as well a it had before at night but I remembered a hint from this forum about using cold gel packs at the same time as the oxygen & it worked a treat to kill the hit; once the hit was gone I found if I got another fresh gel cold pack & slept with the pack on the CH side of my head I could hold off another hit until morning.

Cheers
