Peppermint?
Jan 6th, 2012 at 10:31am

I read the following:

Quote:
Peppermint--smelling it or tasting it--stimulates the trigeminal nerve, which is connected to the part of the brain that induces wakefulness, explains Alan Hirsch, the founder and neurological director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation.

I would think, for us, stimulation of the trigeminal nerve is a bad idea. I use altoids all the time. Think I'll switch to cinammon.

Wonder if this is the same mechanism which triggers us when exposed to solvents, cleaning fluids of various types, etc.

Makes you wonder if it's just the "strong smell" or something about the actual chemical make ups.....

I tried tiger balm once and it proved only that the Kip scale don't go far enough.

I use a peppermint chap stick right on my eye lid all the time--gets me through a lot of shadows and low kips without taking meds....Don't think I've ever felt like it triggered an attack or made one worse.

I do the same as Ricardo, it has worked better than most meds I have tried. I also use peppermint oil on my temple.

Lance, I use Atmoic fireballs (cinnamon flavored) under my tongue when I get a hit, helps a bunch.

Interesting post.  I also eat Altoids all the time, but never was triggered by one, or relieved.

The Kip scale needs a new value.

Nah, mate. You're thinking about alcoholic constipation. That's when you can't pass a pub.
