update on My Neuro-drama
Aug 8th, 2011 at 4:53pm

Hi!  Just thought i would let everyone know where i'm at and get your thoughts on what has been going on.

I've been on the verapamil 80mg for a week now.  NO HEADACHES!  I suspect that i was ending a cycle when i started them though.  My neurologist's nurse called me today and said that my neuro was concerned about me, and wanted me to go to Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN to see a headache specialist. (the One here in knoxville will not take my insurance).  So....Now to get the appointment set up.  This seems like a lot of rigamarow, but at least she is trying to help me.  I have emailed her the info about oxygen and i have an appt on the 19th of August with her to discuss that.  Just thought i'd let y'all know where i'm at.

Oh...and another thing. The headache specialist i'm going to see is recommended on the Ouch Website.  That makes me feel better.

That's excellent news! In this area of medicine where finding a good doc is so difficult, that you have won the game is a relief (even if travel, distance is a bit demanding.)

I would appreciate a pm after your visit to Vanderbilt.

I can tell you that I've been VERY pleased with the service I've received there.  It's a teaching hospital and has "cutting-edge" (no pun intended) technology.  I received an amazing "nerve sparing" surgery 2/04 . . . bladder cancer . . . removed my bladder and prostate . . . but NO stoma . . . even have some sexual function.  Fired my first urologist here and saw a very respected urologist in Chattanooga (does surgery in at least two, possibly three hospitals in Chatt., who after his procedure(s) and prognosis that bladder would have to be removed, referred me to Vanderbilt . . . . AND took a day out of his very busy practice to come watch my 6 1/2 surgery.  It's easier to get a call-back from nurse or triage nurse long distance than to receive the same courtesy from my local doc . . . have been very pleased.
