Treatment

I got to say.. this is my first post. I started this ride about 5 or so years ago and was diagnosed with Horners syndrome.. Its kind of depressing to me that I'm even writing in this forum (no disrespect to anyone here ) i know that my case is far from the worst.. After the honers seemed to pass, at least the droopy eye lid and extreme redness of the eye i started to develop sinus headaches.. or so i thought! I went to a doctor and was told to go to a Neurologist. I think you are experiencing Cluster headaches. My 29th birthday i have photos of me with ice on my face.. little did i know what was happening.. I made my self a cocktail of vicodin.. then some more.. and thought that that is what killed the pain... again little did I know that this just passes on its own. It was on and off until i had a nice 2-3 month cluster. I had a girlfriend of 4 years, i was 30. She wasn't remotely compatible with me and the aggravation of the head pain by nature just caused me to crack! She was out within 2 weeks. Amazingly i think that broke the cycle.. Maybe being emotionally drained, the change.. 4 years was a long time.. even if it was ...less than good. I went into remission until May 5th of this year(2010), at least that was the first significant headache, i knew they were coming back. Im 33 now. Verapamil doesn't do it, NASId's don't do it, Insurance sucks they don't cover enough shots of Imitrex and I think it made them more severe.. What am i to do.. i feel so desperate at times. I'm writing this with a tearing eye.. Just one and stuffy nostril and for a cluster headache, a mild one. I just told a friend of mine to get some "shrooms". Ive been doing alot of research and found that it seems to be the most promising. What have i to lose? My sanity is partially gone already! Any one that may have any experiences with this type of therapy please let me have some input.. I'm not a user.. just figuring that the alternative is this. Its very hard to run work like this. I live in NYC.. Not a forgiving town... I will let you know how this goes.....

If you are serious about the alternative therapies..shrooms......go to   clusterbusters.com     it's not a fast fix...it requires a disciplined approach. But their success rate is phenomenal.

Before you leave this board, read the oxygen info link on the left. Aborts attacks for me in 6-8 minutes. Worth looking into as it's the one abort you can use while you start on the clusterbusters treatment.

Welcome to the board, we do get it!

Please go to the section, "Getting to know you", and read my reply under the message,
" New (not that I'm thrilled about it. . .)"

This will save me mucho typing! But the core suggestion is to get a headache specialist, and that should not be a hard job in your locale.

Right now, stay away from pain meds and alcohol. Avoid the temptation to start treating yourself with this-and-that until you have a firm diagnosis and are working a controlled plan of treatment from the doc.

There is another person on this board (there may be others) who have both CHs and Horner's Syndrome. It is a very difficult combo to treat, apparently. My advice is to follow Bob's advice, and before you decide something "has not worked," try researching the levels of meds we use vs. the level normally used for the med's on label treatment. Frequently CHs respond only to much higher doses of whatever we use for an abortive and preventative. Read and read...and keep us informed. Blessings. lance
