Expired Imigran injection.
Aug 10th, 2010 at 4:31am

Imigran injection, can it be too old, have a huge stock and expired dec 2009 ?

Build up a big stock years ago when I had daily attack. Lucky me, only used a few for more than a year.

Hello,

I have read on here in just the last couple of days - a few people using out of date injections.  From what I can tell - no problem at all.  Sorry I'm not able to be more specific about which posts they were - my function doesn't brain very well  Wink - they would have been in this section - cluster headache help and support.

Wishin you all the best,

Kate

I've used Imitrex tabs before hits a couple years ago and those tabs were expired by 5 years.  The last time I used injections, those were 3 years old and guess what?  They still worked even using our Imitrex tip (the minimal amount of liquid form, 2mg).  Don't believe the expiration.  I figure as long as they're within a decade, they're good and the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work.

They are still Good!  I used my Imitrex stock from 2004 in 2010 and it worked. Maybe a bit slow but worked.

Send them to me I'll test them for ya!   Grin

If they look very discolored then do not use. Pail yellow to clear is ok.  Really yellow not a good idea.

Also given this advise from neuro years ago.

Chad is correct.  They just get weak!

Just looked it was 2004 the box I was using.

Unless the storage conditions have been very bad, you can use and let your experience rule.

I've had reps from two pharmaceutical mfg. outfits tell me that the date is an FDA requirement but that it seldom has any real-life meaning for our meds.

The only one I have found where the date is important is ergotamine items. They lost punch with time.

I was actually told by my neuro to not pay attention to the expiration date! he said it's a way for the company to make money! I agree.

The other night I took a shot and didn't taste the metal for about 5 minutes and the pain took another 5 minutes before it started to taper down.  The next morning I checked the expiration date and it was expired just a month over a year.  So it still worked but not as well.  Better than nothing.

I wasn't kiddin I used stuff that had exp. 6 years ago at
least 1 box 5 vials wasn't tossin it!  Like I mentioned, a bit
slower at 2mg or less but it did work, so 1 or 2 years you
shouldn't worry much.  Stuff I have been using that is a
year or 2 old works like the stuff I just got. Really
negligible difference.  Just my 2˘ after about 60+ aborts in
the last 30 days all of expired Imitrex.  That's all I had till
I got some from the bridges to access program as I have
no insurance now and had stock from my insurance days.
60 is a conservative number.  I'm still here...   Cheesy

Yeah a helluva lot better than nothing.  Cool

The time it takes for an injection to kick in will vary due to the intensity of the impending hit, plus  what stage it was in at the time of the injection, etc.

So I wouldn't conclude that the reason the imigran took a whole ten minutes the other night was definitely because of it's expiration date.

I've used 7 year expired shots with "like new" results.

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

Thanks for all answer, I'll be fine for years now with my stock Smiley
By the way, I shoot with 6 mg, I can see 2-mg/ml mention here ?

I used one a week ago and it worked perfectly fine, like new born after 5 min. I agree, time of effect depends on how fast you take it.
I have one side effect, my skin get's really heat sensitive for about one -2 hrs. Warm water feels like boiling.

Make sure you get it in some place it doesn't hit muscle.
They gave me needles too long and I was hitting muscle. Boy,
I was getting all strange side effects.  Needle shouldn't go in
more than 1/4" and you can't be all skin and bones.

Oh, if your using Stat injector check for air in system.  I
was seeing a lot of air in the system when I was using
stat system.  I would take it out an look clear air and then
inject.  I know it's not as stat but I told the Big Boys they
didn't seem to care.  wasn't going to make them $$$....
But that air may be giving you that sensation. Would leave
me all black and blue!  Back in the day I was using a few to
many and I looked like hell!!!  If I remember it would burn
like hell.  Also that needle is the size of a roofing nail!

Peace,

Boski   Wink
