Need new neurologist in Los Angeles -- any advice?

Had used Kudrow for years but he went off my insurance plan. Now trying another and while she's wonderful, the staff is horrible and am tired of the admin run-around. I need a neuro who specializes in or at least has some familiarity with CH (I don't want to do the whole "no, it's not migraines; no -- Extra Strength Tylenol isn't the answer" thing all over again like I did for years). Anyone have a recommendation?

His father, Dr Lee Kudrow, MD, essentially wrote the book on oxygen therapy as an abortive for cluster headaches... and his sister, Lisa Valerie Kudrow is an actress. You might call his office and see who he recommends.

I currently have a neuro who is not on my insurance company's list of preferred providers, and I was able to work out a deal with them where they bill the insurance at out of network rates, and I'm merely responsible for my in-network copay amount plus any deductible. Doctors write off a lot these days.

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3. Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Lee Kudrow was my Dr. who diagnosed me in 1987. His office was in Encino, Ca.. His write-up and subsequent file on me went where-ever I went after that. NO doctor after that EVER EVER questioned his prescriptions for 02 and other preventatives. In fact when I moved to Northern Calif. his reputation was well known even there and my new Dr. in Redding told me..."wow...you actually met the man"

If you saw Kudrow...his file on you should be enough no matter who you see. Really. Insist on it.
