WOW! A very interesting study. Several people on the board have discussed sleep apnea, at least one that I know, Brew, got the CPAP Machine. Worked wonders for his sleep apnea but did not have an effect on his CH.

As for the vitamin C, that's the first I've heard of it being used for CH. I use Vitamin B-2, magnesium, Calcium Citrate with D, Zinc, and a daily multi vitamin. Give the C a shot and monitor the results.

First I've heard of Vit. C too.

Personally, I doubt it would make any difference one way or the other, but it sure can't hurt.

I really have my doubts as well.  makes me wonder if the whole article was written by someone who is going to profit from "c" sales you know?  but worth a try!

I don't have sleep apnea so perhaps this doesn't apply to me but I have tried high-dose vitamin C therapy when I was trying to fight off a cold.

It did nothing to my CH, but it did make me break out in the WORST acne I've ever had.

I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, I guess consuming lots of acid does that to a lot of people and drinking too much soda has always made me break out, but goodness!  I went from VERY clear skin to having a pimple on ALMOST EVERY PORE on my face in 3 days!!!

My advice: DON'T try this if you have an event to go to, especially if you're as vain as me.   Grin

No.  It's from Jonathan's old web site.  He's well-known here.  Profiting from vitamin C sales just isn't something he does.

(The rest of the site has been down for a while.  I miss it very much.  It contained a wealth of accumulated information on herbal treatments, minerals, vitamins, and alternative treatments for CH.  Hint, hint, Jonathan.   Wink  )

As for the vitamin C, I normally take a 1000 mg. supplement daily, and have done so for a long time.  I think it's done a lot for general health, but I've never noticed any effect on CH, good or bad.  Then again, I'm one of those clusterhead males who does not have sleep apnea.

Best,

George

The article does not suggest that vitamin C could prevent or abort cluster headaches - it was about a constellation of other health problems that clusterheads seem more prone to, and how vitamin C might help with those other health issues.

Just got kidney stones for the first time on Memorial Day, and one of the things I came across in my research is that high doses of vitamin C can sometimes be converted to oxalate by the body, which increases the risk of kidney stones. Vitamin C is necessary, and certainly more than the miniscule amount that the FDA recommends. But I am getting mine from orange/lemon juice (good for stones as well) and other fruits and veggies. Shooting for 7-10 servings a day on modified DASH diet, which has tons of other benefits.

Nor would it make any sense...Vit C is so cheap and readily available.....

Yes...absolutely...from another Jonathan...

Same dosage, same time frame, same general reason, no effect on ch...no sleep apnea...

Best,

Jon
