Hey, all y'all. I'm a southern boy (58, b. in VA, raised in FL) I am now living up north. I am a newbie to the site, although I've known about the site for almost 20 years. Didn't sign on; don't know why, but now I have.

Some bio and CH info: I was first diagnosed with CH's in 1987 and went into a kind of remission (I think I just went out of cycle) with Verapamil and Ergotamine. Then I became seasonally episodic, and have been chronic for the past 4 years. Wahooo! I'm married to the same woman now for 39 years; I have 7 children and 11 grandchildren. I have been an Anglican Priest for 32 years, so while "we talk" and I fuss and pace and fight the "bastard" God has not seen fit to take these away.

Best abortive: O2 with 25lpm regulators and Demand Flow valve; also Migranol nasal spray, but I can't get my insurance company to pay for enough of it each month. I have been reading up on the deep brain stimulation being performed in Italy and at Johns Hopkins. I have a sympathetic neurologist who tries hard but we've gone through just about every medication possible. In have finally received an appointment for a neurologist at the Graham Headache Center, associated with Tufts Medical. I'll let all y'all know how that works out. Also, luv those Gators! Go Gators!  Cool

Welcome to the board! The good news is SOME people outgrow them.....the bad news is some don't and there's not much rhyme or reason to it! Wink (about to turn 50 here and STILL hoping to outgrow them)

Attitude is everything and you've got the right one. Enjoy life, kick the beasts butt when he rears his ugly head. Hoping the specialist can tweak your meds. Some of the chronics have found relief with the combo "cocktail" of Verapamil AND Lithium. Might be worth chatting with the specialist about. Good luck with the appointment.

Welcome to CH.com, sorry you needed to find us.
I have used Migranal before and found it much to slow acting to abort my CH. Worked fairly well as a preventative but as you say insurance limited how much.

I now use DHE-45 (also in migranal) self injections that work great and my insurance doesn't limit them. Folks that use Imitrex inject have the same limits by insurance. Imitrex doesn't work for me though. Note: the DHE gives me 24hrs pain free.

Good Luck and welcome again,
Don

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of the Beast , I  have O2 so I fear him not.
