I'm a nervous wreck
Nov 5th, 2009 at 6:23pm

My fearless daughter, Jackie (16) will be driving to Naperville to watch the soccer team win (fingers crossed) the state championship.  She's not leaving until tomorrow morning and I'm already a nervous wreck.  It's a 4 hour drive each way and she will be following others who are also driving up there.  I know she's a good driver, but that does not make me feel any better; I worry about all the others driving on the same highways.

What shocked me was John saying it was ok without any hesitation.  I'm made to feel like the overprotective mom.  I thought that was my job just like it is my job to worry.  I can't help it.

If you could, send out safe vibes for her until she gets back on Saturday.

Stressed out Beth

Vibes for your stress level and her safety.

You're a better woman than I am!

Sending safe driving wishes for Jackie and "calm down" wishes for Mom, although I agree with you Beth.

She wouldn't be allowed to drive alone if she lived in this Province.  Our licensing restrictions are pretty strict for the young ones.

I agree it is our job to worry and trust me, the worry part never seems to go away! Hate to tell ya that.

Hugs
Carol

As Carol said, our laws here in Ontario have all new drivers go through a graduated licensing system implemented in 1994.

Sending vibes your way,Beth.  I'm sure Jackie will be okay but I surely understand your worry.

I'll be thinking of you both!

Jackie isn't driving alone, she will be with her friend, Abby.  They have a very similar graduating licensing program here too, but it still doesn't make me feel any better that she's driving legally.  I thought she was going to Peoria, which is only a couple hours away, and found out it was near Chicago only when I was on my way home from work.

Thanks for the vibes.  The girls are good at keeping my mind at ease by always letting me know where they are and who they are with.  They understand that is the #1 rule with mom.

I'm putting my nervous energy to work by cleaning and doing laundry.

Oh Beth, I'd be scared silly too. I so understand. ((HUG)) I'm sure she'll be fine and I'm sure no matter how many times anyone says it - you'll still worry! It's what parents do.
We're here for you

Beth,

Being scared and nervous is normal.  But please don't beat yourself up.

Now with that said, you and Hubby have been instrumental in helping her to grow and begin to spread those wings of hers.  Those last years before adulthood are harder on us parents then they are on our kids, because we are the ones who worry, knowing all this big world holds.

But trust in the lessons you've taught her thus far, so that she can venture into that big world with the confidence she needs to succeed and not be afraid of her own shadow.  That is our Mom job to do the worrying, while they go and do the things that they are meant to do.

You are doing it right.  Trust yourself too!

I would love nothing better than to be able to, but it's not possible this weekend.  I'm going to be in the area alot in the next few months, so I'll take a rain check.
