Ellen and I went fly-fishing on the South Fork this afternoon, and she got some shots of an osprey that landed in a tree across the river.  Thought you'd like to take a look.   Smiley

She also got some nice pics of the fall colors of the cottonwoods, aspens, and chokecherry trees in the canyon.  I'll put 'em up on this thread when she gives me the links.

Best,

George

I completely understand George.   Smiley

I tagged along on the last fishing trip to Kinkaid Lake.  The guys didn't catch a thing, but I enjoyed being out in nature.  Here's a pic (a little blurry) I took of a bird.  I have no idea what kind of bird, but I enjoyed watching it on the water.

Beautiful, George....I saw Osprey nests at your old stomping grounds, Potato Creek, but didn't see any birds.

Blurred or not, Beth, it's a nice picture.  Just being out there is fun even if you get skunked.

Great Blue Heron, Beth.  A little lighter in color than I'm used to seeing them, but it's a shitepoke, all right.   Wink

Nice pic.

Thanks for confirming that George.  It is much lighter than the Blue Herons I see around my house, so I wasn't sure.  It's wings were very blue while in flight.

Great pics!

We have several dozen osprey nests near our home...such beautiful birds.

I too am a fly fisherman.

I am lucky to have a fishing camp on one of the best Brookie river in Ontario, Canada.

Here is a pic of the last trout of the season a few weeks back... a small one but typical colour for our river...I put 'em back mostly.

I currently hold the record for our stream at 16 3/4 " ...an unheard of size for a fast flowing stream in these parts where 9" is typically a good size.

Paul, I've always believed that brookies are brighter and more beautiful in their native streams, and your photo just confirms that.   Smiley  The brook trout we see hereabouts were all planted (most of them back in the twenties).  They pale to insignificance next to your gem-like beauties.

The trout in the South Fork are mostly wild rainbows (the McCloud strain, not the redbands that originally inhabited the river.)  Some of the native bull trout (Salvelinus confluentis) still remain as well.

Best,

George

Seems to give the slopes kind of a blue tint, getting the three major colors in the picture, red, yellow, blue, from nature.

I like brookies, too.  Almost look festive.  Nice fish.  Grew up on a lot of trout fishing, brooks seemed a small minority among the rainbow and browns where I fished, elusive.  Generally came up empty anyway.

Surprising how many times though you can be so eager to go back and trek through muck and thickets to get at parts of rivers to come up empty again and again.   Roll Eyes
