137 days til the wedding...and...
Sep 22nd, 2009 at 9:49pm

So Joe was reading the paper this morning, front page of the business section "X Hotel closing for renovations". Yes, X being our hotel, closed until after the wedding. Well that was a nice how-do-you-do. So now we scramble for another place, and try to negotiate a similar package. At least Hotel X is helping us, and will apply our deposits totalling about $7000 at this point to the new venue.

Oh, and the invitations arrived yesterday. Yep, we get to reprint those too. ARGH!

Can you either make the hotel pay for the reprint or simply slip an addendum into the invitation?

Give your daughter $50,000.00 and tell her to elope!  It will be cheaper, in the long run, and no hassles!

My entire wedding was only about 8 grand everything included (yes the beer and gown too).

That was 20 years ago, but still...wonder if we'd spent more,  would the marriage have lasted longer?  Probably not.   Grin

We have a hotel (actually it's the one Runaway Bride was filmed at) that went bankrupt this past winter. Lisa's frind lost their deposit for their wedding totally. I just don't get how these things can happen. Good luck with the new arrangements.

Hmm, I think my wedding cost about $100.00 and that included paying the preacher.  No honeymoon, hell we'd been living together for almost 2 years!

ARRGGHH!  A  wedding planner's nightmare! I'm so sorry, Christy and Joe!
The GOOD  news is, the wedding is still far enough away that you CAN make alternate plans, and, it sounds like the venue is cooperative in making you 'whole' on the situation. The bad news is, your daughter had chosen this venue for specific reasons, setting, memories, who knows? Now she has to move on.and, yes, you have to scramble to make that change fast, before all places are booked up!
I HOPE you find an even better location, and can move on to plan a wonderful wedding for all of you.

Wish I could help in some way.....

My wedding was really inexpensive.  The cost of the material for my dress and the beer.  Ted wore his Marine Corps uniform.  Everything else was provided for free by relatives and friends kind donation of goods and or time.  Speak of hotels.  We moved the wedding up a year because we didn't want to be seperated any longer (him in CA me in WI) and gave everyone a couple weeks notice.  Well the city we were honeymooning in was having a convention and all the hotels in the city were booked except the hotel owned by my best friends Mom and Dad had one room available.  We took it.  It was the last place in the world that I wanted to stay but it served its purpose.

So it costs money to get married then?

One more reason for me...... Roll Eyes

Sorry for all that you've gone through and will, I guess. Stay mad for awhile. It seems healthy and to be working so far.
