Anybody got a favorite Prednisone taper?
Mar 25th, 2009 at 8:12pm

Hi folks,

Nothing else working thus far, so I went to the drug of last resort.  Doing 60 mg prednisone with good results (extremely mild CH attacks, easy and quick to treat with O2), need to get off it soon for a while though.

I haven't tapered from such a high dose in more than 10 years.  I recall having some troubles and having to do it twice.  Something like 60-40-40-20-20-10-10-5-5-5-2.5-2.5-2.5-off-2.5-off-2.5-off (that's by day).

Any suggestions before I hit the Neuro tomorrow would be welcome.

Love y'all!!!!

Pain free days....

Joe will be along shortly.  I just like oxygen as an abort.

I go from 80 down over about a 10-14 day period. I've varied it but the break through for me is between 20 and 30 mg. 80-80-70-60-60-50-40-40-30-20-10. In the past when I used ONLY pred, between 20 and 30 it came back with a vengeance. Now by the time I'm in the 20 mg range the lithium is holding it at bay for me.

I suspect if you have been on it for a long period the taper will last longer as your body has a bit more to recover from. As we say again and again, work real close with your doc and NEVER increase or decrease your doses without working with the doc!

Are you transfering to another prevent? Past history for me has been if I taper off pred, with nothing else in my system as a prevent, I get creamed.

Hi Joe,

Hopefully transferring to lithium and a higher dose of verap.  We'll see, though --  a new neuro in town!

Thanks for the advice, you're a good 'un!!

Love y'all,

I've gotten the shot of steroids and a script for Calan (Verapmil).

The shot bought me 4 days pain free..didn't even need a tylenol for those four days....it was a WONDERFUL break from my hits allthewhile I started the Verap the day I recieved my shot.

Only my opinion, but I go for the injection instead of the taper.

One other thing that is my opinion, most CH'S that have never had O2 and go to the doc to get O2 are running into docs that won't prescribe it to them.

I'm furiously thinking that alot of docs dont want CH's on O2 when they can prescribe a whole arsenol of pills to satisfy the drug companies and keep you coming back to them for refills and they make some great money off of you.

-Sorry, I had to vent
