Yes, there was a time mine went from during the night to during the day, but it only happened when I'd screw with my preventatives.

It's unfortunate that the notion that CH are fixed in time and presentation has become so fixed in our thinking! The reality is that time, location, quality of pain, etc. shifts over months and years for many folks.

I've rarely seen medical materials spend time 0discussing the question and then with a notable absence of concern.

First 20 years I NEVER had a night hit. Once I fell asleep I was safe. Hit my 40's and they went all over the board! You'll see this a lot, the only cosistent thing about the beast is his ability to morph!

Mine have never hit at night ( going on 9 years episodic now), but come like clockwork within an hour of waking up. My very limited understanding of them is that it's related to your sleep/wake cycle, possibly originating in the hypothalamus. I would be PISSED if they woke me up and feel so badly for all of you to whom that happens.

Mine are only during the day as well, and USUALLY only once a day,  Between 1430-1700hrs.  Had been PF for 2 weeks. Had a "regular" headache yesterday evening. I was awakened rather rudely by the beast this morning. Started minor and then exploded like a new star coming to life. YAY! And no imitrex.  Cry

But alas...here we go again. But at least I'm armed for the next one.

Mine used to be all day time hits OR upon waking up in the morning.  Two years ago they switched to mostly nights with some during the day.  Now they are switching again.... getting hit after being stressed and then going to sleep.  I don't think this is a TRUE cycle though.   We'll see what Spring has to offer.

The first 10 years episodic, they came day and night. My night hits stopped, for whatever blessed reason, in '96. I've been counting that blessing for 13 years Smiley

During my first few cycles I had no idea what night time hits were. After being a chronic for a while and then in remission, things changed. Now they can come day and night, whatever the beast chooses.

The first four years, I only had them in the daylight, and only July-August. Then it changed, and, now, I mostly get hit during the night and in the months of November-March.

Years ago, I used to get occasional daytime hits, particularly in mid-cycle.  Nowadays I get hit almost exclusively at night--during REM sleep.

Needless to say, I get a little gunshy about sleeping.

No rhyme or reason to this thing, is there?  It's striking how many differences we have--and how many similarities.

Best wishes,

George

CYBERONE.............
If no one has suggested it you sound like a good candidate for Melatonin. An over the counter supplement available at health food and vitamin stores. Take 6-9 mg 30 minutes before going to bed. Many have found they can avoid or at least reduce the night time terrors that way.

Good luck...I can't stand the thought of dreading sleep.

I get a mixed bag.  Hits during the day or night.  More so at night though.  Sleep is my #1 trigger.

same for me.  It was pretty rare to get a day hit with my last cycle.
No sleep was a huge pain.  Made me a zombie all day.

Twelve years of chronic, always had day and night hits.

The night hits are always worse because I don't hit the O2 fast enough because I'm asleep. I've become a very light sleeper just that reason.
