Heat
Jan 5th, 2009 at 3:14am

I was wondering if anyone experienced the same trigger as I do?
It seems that whenever the season change I get a period of CH.
If it becomes winter and I put on the warmer blankets and when it becomes summer and the heat turns up I'm suffering.
Seems like my body is "overheating" my blood runs warm so to speak and then triggering a CH.
Anyone who can relate to excessive heat conditions being a trigger?

Thanks

Yes, I can relate to what you're describing. One of my main triggers is overheating from aerobic exercise levels. I'm a runner and, when in cycle, running for 30+ minutes will trigger for me within 10-15 minutes of finishing. It's that flushed feeling in the face that tells me there's a possibility of it happening -- then boom.

A summer cycle is not fun. Cutting the lawn, being outside in the sun without a breeze, countless scenarios have set me off.

Night time hits will sometimes come with getting too hot under the blankets. etc.......

You're not alone.

Hello. Im a fastpitch coach, and being in the sun all summer long can be a drag, but i have never gotten a CH from the heat although i have gotten some pretty bad shadows during a long tournament day. Coach Bill

I've never had heat actually trigger a hit, but oh man do I get hot during one. The first thing I do is try and get cold real fast!

Absolutely!  Baths, showers, any amount of exercise, sticking my head in a hot oven, stirring a steaming pot, or anything to do with a slightest increase of my body temp (especially the head) can trigger CH for me in cycle.

I am also more susceptible to heat exhaustion, especially when in cycle.

I have a number of instant triggers. Fortunately the temp extremes have never been one of them. But it seems to be a common one on the board.

Radiant heat, particularly from infrared heating units seems to be a trigger for me--even outside a regular cycle.

Don't know why--it's interesting, though.

Best,

George

Maybe this is related?

Quote:
Near infrared light protects cardiomyocytes from hypoxia and reoxygenation injury by a nitric oxide dependent mechanism.

PMID: 18930064

In the short run, infrared increases nitric oxide levels in the blood. Infrared light can speed healing of wounds - the nitric oxide improves blood circulation locally (and maybe system wide, which could be bad in some susceptible individuals).

Another possibility - NIR may change pituitary hormones.  This study was on raw, exposed pituitary tissue, but there may be receptors in the eye that have a similar effect.

I get two major cycles a year and the roughly coincide with the seasonal shifts from cold to warm and back again.

When I'm in cycle I can be triggered by heated yoga classes.  This is some combination of post exercise and heat triggers.

So you are far from along  Wink

yeah heat is a bigtime trigger for me, and when I am getting hit cold seems to help me.

Now I have heard people profess the opposite so take this with a grain of salt.
