can clusters skip years?
Oct 13th, 2008 at 8:42pm

i have been diagnosed with cluster headaches a few years ago. I went through hell trying to figure out what was going on. many many different doctor appointments and such. My first year i had them i was 10's all the time. they would last for bout 6 weeks. i would get them either in the spring or the fall.  or sometimes both.  When they go away i forget about them..totally..until they come back.  Last year i was worrier because they started in april and didnt end til second week of July.  I have never had them last that long.  For the most part i dont recall having a 10. it was normally bout a 7 and maybe one or two 9's.  This year i did not get one in spring or fall.  But when i think back it seems they have skipped years on me before.  Does that sound unusual? Possibly i have something else?  I'm not complaining about not getting them this year and i know i'll get them again someday but when if there not cluster headaches i dont know what to do. I remember all the tests i had to do and it was my wife that came accross cluster headaches on the web not the doctors that it all finally made sense to me. With all the stupid tests i done earlier and never got an answer then i showed them the article i found and they finally confirmed that this is what i probably had......

'Evening.

For what it's worth to your question, I used to cycle twice a year.  Did that for twenty years.  For the next ten years, I cycled once a year.  The past three cycles have each been three years apart.  I'm now two-and-a-half years into remission.

So the answer is--yes.  They certainly can (and do) skip years.

All the best,

George

Most definately.  I'm an 18 year episodic sufferer myself.  When not pregnant my cycle comes every 18 months and lasts for about 40 days.

Splendid,

I always fool myself into thinking the Beast will never come back, but he always is after two to 2 and a half years. What's that river in Egypt  again....?
Since 2000 I only got them in autumn/winter, so I was caught off guard totally when the evil b*st*rd appeared with a vengeance last spring, around mother's day. I'm still recovering from the shock haha.
It is a strange entity, CH.

All the best, Pascal.

Had the beast for over 35 years. Used to be a couple of months every year. Then 5 weeks every two years. The last remission lasted 4 years but the damn things are back again.
