Hi sorry to here of your pain,  as far as crying my left eye tears up when ever I get hit over a 6 and then over 8 I can be a blabbering idiot even though crying just makes the pain worse for me,  I have vomitted rarly my Doctor gave me promethazine witch help for the nausea and he also said it my help with my headaches but havn't noticed that.  The nostral thing well the trigeminal nerve ends run through your nose and are very sensative, my nostral completely closes when I get hit so I dont know that pain, there are alot of great people here, with good advise just keep reading and check out the links to the left.  Hope things get better.   Phil

Bambino, welcome to the site. When you get a second, please elaborate on your routine, what meds you take, what works and doesn't work, how long your cycles last etc. You shouuldn't just be sitting waiting to get creamed!!! Wink There are many preventative and abortive medications that can dramatically improve your quality of life.

For now, if the night time hits are a regular routine, get down to your health or vitamin store and score some melatonin, an over the counter medication travelers use to help them sleep. Start with 3 mg just before bed and increase it over time, many can avoid the night time terrors using that.

Have you tried slamming energy drinks? Rock Star, Monster etc, any containing the combo of caffeine and taurine, many can abort or really reduce an attack by chugging one at the first hint of an attack.

Pull up a seat, tell us about yourself, see if we can help you out.

First of all..thank you Guiseppi and Phil for replying to my posting..nice to see the support others have Smiley Ok, my cycle, I usually get the CH early morning with around 4hrs sleep, I have been reading the site and please correct me if I am wrong, but i think the correct referral for pain would be around 8-9 on the Kip scale, then the CH usually hits around mid afternoon and then again mid to late evening, I was in remission for about a year after suffering for 5yrs, and they just came back, doctors said that it could have to do with pressure changes in the weather cycle etc stuff i am sure you have all heard before. I have tried imitrex nasal spray which worked about two times and then was useless afterwards, various nasal sprays , there is a rapid melt pill that was given to me recently called zomig which again, worked twice and then nothing aftewards...i have noticed on the site that some of the meds prescribed to others seem to work once or twice and we seem to build an immunity to them which is puzzling, this coming thursday i will be seeing a neurologist who specializes in headaches and I am going to ask about the oxygen therapy that so many are raving about since it sounds very promising, Guiseppi, I have not yet tried power drinks or melatonin but believe me, after typing this i am headed to the nearest mall to buy these and try them asap, thank you, I would like to ask everyone if there is anything special i should ask this specialist once i see him, since as i have also noticed on the site, CH's have been misdiagnosed forever and now that I see the symptoms, and being able to differentiate between sinus and migraines , knowing full well i suffer from CH's i just want to make sure i ask the right questions. Some symptoms that i do have that i didn't see are again the "cold air" sensation in my nostril on the same side as the affected eye, my tongue swells where i ,like Phil said, become a blabbering idiot, i can hardly speak, i get severe agitation where , and i hope someone can relate to me on this one, i almost feel like i have to run, pound a wall, ride a bike..anything to get this , i don't know the word "pressure" out of my chest and neck area along with the CH which combined..well I am sure you all know how i feel. I have to say i feel a tremendous wieght lifted off my shoulders being able to relate to u all and bless each and all of u and the pain u suffer, strangely enough i recently was on youtube researching CH's and a poor soul was on there and i watched the video and honest to god the first ten seconds i got a chill up my spine and a tear in my eye knowing what that poor man was feeling..again ty Phil and Guiseppi.

The "agitation" you refer to is one of the symptoms that really differentiates CH from so many others. Where with migrains and the like, people want a cool, dark quiet room to curl up in. Ch sufferers are running laps, jumping up and down, pounding their heads against the wall, ANYTHING  but sitting still.

Your frustration with meds working, then not working, is unfortunately common. The beasts ability to morph is amazing. It's why you always stay on the board, on or off cycle, and keep reading and educating yourself. You always want to have a couple back up plans in case your current regimen loses its effectiveness. We have a saying here that the person who plops themself in front of a doctor and just says "fix me" is setting themself up for a lot of pain. This is a rare condition which requires you educate yourself, then assist and work with your doctor to manage your treatment plan.

When you talk to your neuro, discuss a 2 pronged approach to treating CH. A good preventative medication you'll take regularly to try and ward off the attacks, and a good abortive routine, something you take when the attack starts. Really push hard for the oxygen, read the oxygen links on the board, and print out the info to take to your doc. Nothing works for everybody but oxygen has had such a high rate of success it just makes sense to give it a try.

Keep reading and learning, knowledge is power. Prayers for a knowledgeabl neuro!

I just have a few links to add to the advise you've already been given.  Reading through these should give you a good idea of the general approach of a Dr that knows CH.

Where there is life, there is hope.
Where there is Oxygen, you must use proper caution.
So be safe, don't smoke while using O2. Kill the pain and not yourself.

Your not alone here we al do different things when we get these ch's I rock back and forth at a 6-7 kip, I pace 8-9 and a kip 10 I roll around I prefer a cold floor,  I once rolled off my bed and broke a rib.  Your not going insane you can kick this beasts ass.  When you go to the doctor take as much in fo as possible, print out the kip scale, oxygen info ect. dont try to force it on the doctor though. feel free to PM me if you have any other questions, not saying I'm the best one to talk to there are more intelligent people than myself here but if you need to vent feel free to lay it on me.    Phil

Yes i do have those symptoms. I am restless as most others. I prefer cold over warm. I like water running over my  temples. I switch between screaming, cursing and crying. And last but not least I vomit too, actually nothing comes up but the nausea just won't stop. So often my favorite CH location is the bathroom Smiley

I never had a swollen tongue though and did not experience that cold air sensation as far as i remember.

Same here. Then I switched to injections and never had a single failure.

So your nostril is not congested?

good luck in the fight,

have you found yourself a good neuro?
I see Dr Gary Shapero in Markham at the Markham Headache and Pain Treatment Centre, which is not too far from you.
He is pretty willing to try whatever I suggest

Hi Bambino44 and Kika,
I've found this post very interesting, as I just had a useless Neuro appointment last week in Ottawa.  I'm in the Kingston area, in between Toronto-Montreal and a 1-1/2 hrs south of Ottawa.
I'll keep the name of the doc you mentioned Kika.

Hey Bambino44, Please let me know how you make out with the Neuro in Toronto.  If you were sucessful, please send me his/her name.  I'm researching new doctors now, what ever happens I would travel anywhere to find a good one! Smiley
Thanks Sue
