Title: My experience with Xyrem, the "new CH drug" Post by Lexpecto on Nov 7th, 2016 at 7:28pm
I noticed that there are lots of google results for "new drug Xyrem for cluster headaches" but almost nothing in terms of studies, results, or even personal accounts. I wanted to share my experience to at least get some info out there.
For those of you unfamiliar with Xyrem, it's a medical version of GHB, or the "date rape drug". The idea is that it knocks you waaaay out to help you get better sleep. The thinking about using it for clusters treatment is that you might be able to "sleep through it." Coincidentally, as a treatment for another condition, I do take Xyrem nightly. I have found that it does not help my cluster headaches. I still wake up regularly at night with clusters raging- only now I'm pretty drugged and out of it. Trying to swap O2 cylinders turns a bit comedic at 2am when you're falling over and have difficulty standing up! Ha! Now, I've tried melatonin in the past and had zero luck with it, but I understand it's a wonder supplement for others. So Xyrem might work even better for those people. Who knows?! In closing, I'm just one person and an extremely small sample size, so take this with a grain of salt. (Which Xyrem contains 1,638 mg of every night, as it turns out!) If anyone else has tried it, I'd love to hear their experiences so we can get some more info out there. |
