Title: Looking for a doctor in the phoenix metro area.
Post by AndyC on May 28th, 2016 at 8:55pm
Hi everyone,
It has been a while since I posted.

My son suffers from CH and has been on the D3 regime for over a year.  This year the CH has returned with a vengeance 3 months earlier than normal, especially at night.

I am trying to find a Dr. that knows about CH and is willing to prescribe O2 properly to help him at night.  We have been to a few who refuse to prescribe the O2 in the recommended flow rate.

On another note, he has increased his D3 dosage to the initial loading dose for two weeks but his D3 test came back very low. We are stumped as to why, so any suggestions are very welcome.

Thanks for this site.

Andy

Getting your son O2 is very important. CH is rare so most Doctors don't understand the use of O2. Getting it wrong will only leave the patient suffering, so please try to educate him and yourself.

The "oxygen info" link on the left will give you the requirements.

Hey Andy,

Sorry your son is having a rough time.  His lab results for 25(OH)D point to the problem.  I'd have him start the 2-week vitamin D3 loading schedule.

Week 1.  50,000 IU/day vitamin D3 plus all the cofactors.

Week 2.  40,000 IU/day vitamin D3 plus all the cofactors.

Week 3. Drop back to the 10,000 IU/day vitamin D3 maintenance dose and stay at this dose for a month then go in for another 25(OH)D lab test.

Take care, check you PM inbox, and please keep us posted.

V/R, Batch

Hi Andy

Is he taking the cofactors to go with the D3?

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

2.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

Better late reply than never, as this is a life long disease. Sorry to read of the pain and frustration. You came to the right place for help.

How many miles are you willing to travel?

I have a list of doctors in AZ who are familiar with treating CH's and that were recommended from CH sufferers who reside in AZ.

But AZ is a huge state and there may be doctors in other AZ cities and counties, so how far are you willing to travel?

Please PM me as I do not check this board often and will type out the list for you accordingly.
