Title: Australian Specialist?
Post by Cadz on May 17th, 2014 at 9:43am
Hi,

I'm in a bit of a spot. My GP is not being helpful or understanding. A few years ago, he referred me to my neuro to 'shut me up'. Neuro diagnosed me, but has very little understanding of CH. He reads from his computer; and keeps giving me Verapamil. High doses help the CH, but make me pass out. Lower doses are not helpful. Combined with Topomax for a while; and I was not a pretty sight.

It's been 3 years of my neuro refusing to try anything different. I'm fed up. Tired. And in my 3rd cycle this year already (when I normally only have 1 a year!)

So this long, annoying post, to really ask if anyone can recommend a specialist in Australia. At this point, I'll go anywhere within the country. I'm based in Canberra - so Sydney is probably easiest, but it doesn't really matter.

I was once told there is a CH specialist in Sydney; but I have lost his name!

I think I would just really like to have an educated conversation - not being the one telling the neuro "I read this, and that, and this".

Sorry, no sleep in 3 days due to evil waking me up is making me miss-cranky-pants!

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cadz

Sorry I'm not in Australia (though I wish I was) so can't offer any suggestions other than to google " headache specialist Sydney" and see what comes up.
Hope you have some luck with it.
Maz.

I truly wish I could help, Cadz, but outside of Professor Godsby I've long given up any hope the medical profession could help me fight this dragon.

For Oz based CH specialists have you looked at START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE They should be able to direct you to someone local.

Ben, from Oz, often talks about Paul Rolan (START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE) who has been treating him for years. He is in Adelaide, but he might be able to direct you to some closer.

Also look at the vitamin D3 approach many of us have been trying with great success (over 80%). I've been CH pain free for well over 2 years on it with some 3+.

Thanks guys, I'll keep researching! Running on empty does not help; that's for sure.

Hey Cadz,

Contact Dr. Peter Lewis in Manley NSW at the following link:

START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

Peter is an Integrative physician who uses naturopathic methods including vitamin D3 therapy to treat many disorders...

Tell him you're a cluster headache sufferer and likely vitamin D3 deficient.  That should get the ball rolling.

Take care and check your PM inbox.

V/R, Batch
