Title: Prescribed Dexamethasone Post by ClusterJane on Mar 11th, 2014 at 4:32pm
My neuro prescribed 4 1/2 mg of dexamethasone 2x a day for 5 days = 10mg a day. I started this morning by taking a small amount. After reading some about it today I feel that this is a really high dose. Not sure I want to take that much. Anyone out there have any info they can share with me on this drug?

My neuro prescribes 60mg QD (once a day) for 3 days, 50mg QD for 3 days, 40mg QD for 3 days, 30mg QD for 3 days, 20mg QD for 3 days and 10mg QD for 3 days.
So doesn't sound like your neuro is giving you too high a dose. He knows I won't take it but insists I have the script on hand in case I get desperate. Maybe someone else will chime in on their dosage. Judy |

I'm on a prednisone taper right now. 60mg/5 days, 50mg/3 days, 40mg/3 days, 30mg/3 days, 20mg/3 days, 10mg/3 days. It's rough but the attacks have quieted.

Dexamethasone is 5-6 times stronger than prednisolone. Don't get the two confused.

I was thinking the same thing. I tapered down from 12 mg Dexamethasone over a 15 day period. I am pretty sure, had I been given 60mg, it would have killed me or I would have killed someone else. It had some pretty strong side effects.
