Title: Predinisone Help
Post by jason1212 on Mar 10th, 2014 at 7:54pm
I'm on day 5 of a prednisone taper, I'm last day of the 60mg dose actually I have one more 20mg tonight then I start tapering.  I have noticed that today my face is very red purplish like I'm sunburned or really even bruised all around my eyes. I did some quick research on-line and found this can be a side effect of the prednisone.  Other than that I feel fine, really none of the other more common pred side effects, no hulk smash yet.

I will definitely call my neuro tomorrow, not sure though if I should go to like a walk in clinic tonight though or skip my pred dose tonight?  I really don't want to, the cycle this pred busted was pretty awful and I have really enjoyed my short holiday.

Any one else ever get this side effect?

You should NOT stop taking Prednisone after taking 60mg for a week. A TAPER is REQUIRED. Follow your doctors orders EXACTLY like he/she says.

For Example ONLY:
60mg X 5 days, then
50mg X 5 days, then
40mg X 5 days, then
30mg X 5 days, then
20mg X 5 days, then
10mg X 5 days, STOP.

(That is a LONG taper too & ALOT of medicine.)

--> EXPECT SIDE EFFECTS, but if you abruptly stop tapering ... EXPECT WORSE SIDE EFFECTS.

Good Luck  :exclamation

One of the reasons taking this steroid becomes a frequent topic of conversation is because of the pronounced side effects that some people who take it experience.

Doctors say that those taking prednisone even for a week might experience insomnia; incredible hunger that leads to weight gain; facial swelling; agitation or anger; feeling hyper or, alternately, depressed and sluggish; and even a rise in blood sugar and/or blood pressure.

Physicians prescribe a drug that makes some people feel awful with such significant side effects for one reason.

It works.
