Title: Fluoxetine
Post by Droyal on Apr 3rd, 2013 at 11:46am
I started having panick attacks when I was getting tested for my headaches worried that it was something more serious. All my tests came back negative and I was diagnosed with cluster headaches. I was prescribed fluoxetine for my panic attacks and I was in a cycle when I was having panic attacks. The first day I started the fluoxetine my cluster headaches went away and I haven't had one since taking it. I don't know if this was just a coincidence or really is effective for them? Let me know if anyone else has had luck with this drug?

Title: Imigran and Prozac

:) I would greatly appreciate hearing of anyone else's experience or medical knowledge on the intereaction, (if that is the right word), between Imigran and Prozac.
I am an episodic CH sufferer due to go into cycle in the next week or so. Currently I manage my CH by taking 25 or 50 mg of Sumatriptan, dependant on severity, in tablet form. I realise that I get away lightly compared with most sufferers.
Three weeks ago my GP put me on 20 mg daily of Fluoxetine (Prozac) to counter anxiety/depression. Since this time I have needed to take a 25 mg tablet of Imigran on 2 seperate ocassions, and I was unpleasantly surprised by the reaction that followed.I felt much more 'woozey' and light headed and uncomfortable, but it did clear the CH in much less than the usual time. The overall effect was possibly as if I had exceeded the dose. The thought occurred to me that, as both drugs target receptors in the brain, I believe, may be they were interacting and having an additive effect.
My GP says that it is OK to take Imigran and Prozac together, and a couple of web sites that I have consulted appear to confirm this, but as I shortly expect to need to take further, more frequent combinations, when my cycle really 'kicks in', I would be grateful to read of anyone else's experiences or knowledge of taking these two drugs together.
Thanks for taking the time to consider this.

My CH treatment

20min HOT steamy shower 1 hour before bed
3 mg of melatonin and 2 mg of time-release melatonin afterwards
Go to bed
Wake up, take 250 mg of magnesium and 20 mg of fluoxetine (prozac)
Abort with zomig as needed.

Hope that helps a little.

Welcome Patricia,

Having battled a few depressions myself, as I tend to suffer from a mild form of Seasonal Affected Disorder, I'm aware of the fact that Imitrex and fluoxetine (Prozac) are not to be taken together. Or any other kinds of anti-depressants of that strain for that matter.
But you mention taking no Trex coz of an allergy, so that won't be a problem.

Guess it comes with the territory somehow, our affliction and the feelings of despair. No wonder when you're being hit several times a day with the worst pain imaginable, not being able to do all the things you need/want to for 7 to 9 weeks.
But to me, the CH related depression always takes a hike as soon as it's clear the cycle is really over.

Here's hoping you will be fine again very soon,

Pascal.

Just 3 of the posts I have found doing a quick google search...might be somehting to this....
