Title: Back after 7 year remission
Post by Bttrthanu on Apr 1st, 2013 at 12:02am
I have VERY LUCKILY been PF for 7 years.  Scared everytime I got a migraine that it would be the beginning of another cycle.  I recently had a miscarriage and when my period returned , so did my CHs.  Anyone have any experience with this?  Could this be a hormonal thing?  Trying to convince myself this is not happening and once my hormones regulate the headaches will stop.  Probably wishful thinking, but here's hoping!  :-[

Hi Bttrthanu and welcome

It sounds like you've been through a pretty rough patch recently, hope everything improves soon.

Hormones certainly can play a part in CH for both males and females. For guys a testosterone deficiency can result in CHs that when corrected the CHs disappear. For women, many report changes around pregnancy, either increasing or decreasing.

Have you got any preventives to cut down the number of CHs you get? Something like verapamil, lithium or topomax?

Similarly have you got anything to kill off a CH that starts, either oxygen or imitrex injections?

Do also look how many of us are using vitamin D3 (START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE). This has kept many of us pain free, some including myself for over a year.

Welcome back. Some of our women have posted that CH stoipped during their pregnancy, others not so lucky. There just may be a hormonal component too. Please do check out the D-3 link Mike refers to.

It’s a vitamin/mineral/fish oil supplement, all over the counter stuff. It’s up to an 81% success rate of those who try it and respond to the survey so you’re just shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t give it a shot. I’m 3 years pain free on it after a 35 plus year track record with episodic CH. Best of all, it’s healthy for you even without CH!

As of January 20, 2013, the compiled raw data indicates an efficacy of 80%. 240 out of the 300 CH'ers who have started this regimen and stayed on it for a month or more have experienced a significant reduction in the frequency and severity of their CH... 78% of the 300 CH'ers experienced a pain free response and 60% of the 300 have remained essentially pain free. Episodic and chronic CH'ers respond to this regimen at roughly the same rate.

Preliminary survey results indicate most of these CH'ers were pain free before the end of the third week with some responding in a little as 12 to 24 hours. The average time to respond is five days

Be grateful for every one of those 7 years. I once had 4 good ones before the beast returned with bludgeoning force. Hope you get this under control and get another 7 and then some.
